Demand Responsive ApproachesDemand is often confused with demand responsiveness. In its true sense, demand responsive approaches (DRA) ask a lot from agencies providing the water supply service. This is why DRA is used in almost all documents, but is difficult to find on the ground. What is demand? Demand is understood slightly differently by engineers, economists and lay people. What is Demand Responsiveness? Responding to demand is different from demand itself. Whose demand? Rural communities are not homogeneous, and therefore it is difficult to get a clear picture of what different sections of men and women really want. Steps towards Full DRA: Five key steps to implement a truly demand responsive approach to water supply (and sanitation).
